On September 19, 2024, the Minister of Higher Education, Bacar Mvoulana, welcomed the National Teachers of the Comoros Union (SNPC) at the ministry’s headquarters. The purpose of the meeting was to inform the union about the new system regarding the school year 2024-2025 and to discuss the challenges associated with this system.
Minister Bacar Mvoulana particularly focused on the consequences that may arise if the strike continues, emphasizing their need to protect their career path in the public sector, which is already suffering as the percentage of staff has shrunk to 20%.
In his remarks, the minister took the opportunity to review the achievements made for veteran teachers, including promotions. He confirmed that some teachers on Anjouan Island had already received their promotion papers in order to disburse their September dues. He also pointed out that the government has expressed a strong desire to improve working conditions for those in the education sector, uphold their dignity, and reassess the profession of teaching. He mentioned that the new system includes significant measures paving the way for the implementation of ideal educational reforms. He also urged teachers to work with the same seriousness.
In his turn, union representative, Mohamed Bouina expressed his gratitude on behalf of the union for the notable efforts made by the minister, affirming his support for discourse to pave the way for the 2024-2025 school year.
